Anambra Set To Construct N1.5b Housing Estate

Gov. Willy Obiano of Anambra on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private firm for the construction of a Housing Estate at the cost of N1.5 billion.
Speaking after signing the document with the firm, Lake Petroleum Ltd, in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state, the governor said the estate would be located at Government Reserved Area (GRA) Onitsha.
He said that the sole aim of the project was to provide affordable and durable houses for the people in the area.
Obiano said the estate would be the eighth housing project to be initiated by his administration, adding that the project would be built to international standard, and provided all facilities.

According to him, the project is expected to generate both direct and indirect jobs for youths in the area, and therefore urged the contractors to begin work within three months or risk losing the contract.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Anambra State Investments Promotion and Protection Agency, Mr Joe-Billy Ekwunife, had said that in the course of executing the project, the firm was expected to reclaim some land lost to erosion.
Ekwunife said that when completed, the project would boost the internally generated revenue of the state.
He said that profit accruable from the project after sales of the housing units and land, would be shared between the state and the firm.

Mr Cletus Mbaji , chairman of the firm, represented by his son, Mr Vincent Mbaji, promised to deliver a world class housing estate within the 18 months deadline.
Mbaji said the efforts of the state government in developing all sectors of the state economy, was highly commendable. (NAN).
