PDP Convention: God Intervened To Save Our Party From Collapse – Adeniran

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Tunde Adeniran has attributed the outcome of the August 17 repeat national convention of the party in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to God’s divine intervention which he said saved the party from ‘irreparable collapse’.
Adeniran, who was also a top contender for the national chairmanship position of the party, stated this in a statement he personally signed and sent to LEADERSHIP, where he congratulated the various participants at the convention.
The former minister of information said he has embarked on a one month ‘thank you visit’ to all leaders and key stakeholders across the various zone.
According to him, the lingering leadership crisis in the PDP was self-inflicted, revealing that the Port Harcourt convention was characterized by “dubious scheming and impossibility of coming up with a new leadership”.
The statement reads, “The 17 August, 2016 National Convention of our great party which took place in Port Harcourt has now become part of our history. I congratulate all our eligible participants and wish all our members nationwide opportunities to play appropriate roles in future for the sake of meaningful democracy and national development.
“As I stepped out yesterday to begin a one month “THANK YOU VISIT” to our leaders and key stakeholders in the various zones, two issues were topmost on my mind. The first: God is indeed Almighty and He is forever faithful to those who love and serve him in spirit and in truth. Those who assembled in Port Harcourt included some founding fathers and mothers, some builders, even emerging Czars, leviathans, dealers, etc. The Almighty God allowed each and all to play various roles and mercifully intervened to save our party from irreparable collapse and immolation.
“The second issue is the way forward. What happened in Port Harcourt, particularly the dubious scheming and impossibility of coming up with a new leadership, clearly showed that we were yet to learn from the past. No remorse whatsoever! This explains why the PDP painfully became victim of its internal dynamics and a dispensable institution to its major beneficiaries! For me, I believe God has given us enough opportunity and the masses have been patient enough. We must now set out right away on the part of reconciliation, unite all our members and begin to do things properly – following due process and the rule of law within a framework of justice and fairness.
“I thank you all for keeping hope alive and wish to continue counting on you as I renew my aspiration to the National Chairmanship through which to rebuild, reposition, rebrand and transform our great party.”
LEADERSHIP recalled that the PDP national convention billed for August 17 could not hold as combat-ready police officers cordoned off venue, following the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja barring the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led PDP from holding the convention.
