2 suspects were on Wednesday paraded by the Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC) for their alleged involvement in the secret sales of government diesel to a cartel in the state.
The suspects includes Mr. Hycinth Nwekwu in charge of the Generator Plants used in powering street lights along Ezza Road and one Titus Nwokwu, the personal Guard to the Head of service, Ebonyi State government, Mr. Chamberline Nwele.
Nwekwe who was handling the operations of the Power station at the State Golf course in Abakaliki before his arrest had long been suspected of being involved in shady deals as the diesels often procured by the state government for the powering of the street lights had always finished before its anticipated period.
Parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters in Abakaliki, the Commandant of the Corps, Chinwe Kannu who explained that the command had acted promptly based on intelligence gathering noted that the suspects were fond of siphoning diesels meant for the Power station for their own personal gains.
“There were arrested on friday 26th August, 2016. We didn’t want to parade the suspects then till after our preliminary investigations. They were arrest with 5 jerry cans loaded with diesel.
“Before now we had got tips that the diesels often purchased by the state government finish below the period earmarked for them. They have been tampering with these products and as such they sell them to ready marketers”.
The Commandant stated that the suspects would be prosecuted according to the law and warned youths to shun acts of crimes and criminality as the Command was set to rid the state of criminals.
