Chelsea’s forgotten man Victor Moses wants to enjoy his football again following loan spells at West Ham, Stoke City and Liverpool. And the Nigerian international is wishing the country’s men football team win the gold medal at the Rio Olympics, starting next month. The Nigerian international is back training with the Blues for pre-season and is getting his chance under Antonio Conte on the club’s tours of Austria and the USA. Moses is now in America with the team for training sessions ahead their matches against Liverpool, Real Madrid and AC Milan before a final friendly against Werder Bremen in Germany. Victor Moses The 25-year-old made 21 appearances for West Ham last season, also suffering a hamstring injury in December which kept him out of action until February. He said: “To be honest, I just want to enjoy my football. I want the fans to be able to recognise I am doing something good for the club but at the same time I want to work hard for the team and make sure we win games. “Everyone is looking sharp, everyone wants to do the work and we are excited; we have got a new manager and we all just want to work as hard as we can.” Staying close to the left touchline and feeding passes infield, the wide position Moses has played this pre-season is reminiscent of his time at Wigan before he signed for Chelsea. He added: “That is my position really, staying out wide and most of the time going into one v one situations which I am good at. “It is similar to the kind of game I was playing at Wigan and I have really enjoyed the two games. “As a winger, you want to get at defenders and make it hard for them. Instead of them going forwards, they have to defend against you.” Moses was not selected to represent Nigeria in the Olympics, as one of the squad’s permitted quota of three players over the age limit of 23, unlike his Chelsea teammate John Mikel Obi. This means he will have an undisrupted period of preparation time ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League campaign, which starts at home against the Hammers on 15th August. He said: “I am lucky doing my pre-season here. “With a new manager I want to show my talent and that I am willing to play for the team, but at the same time I wish Nigeria the best, which is the gold and I hope they make the nation proud.” The 25-year-old scored one goal and created 16 chances in 21 Premier League appearances for West Ham last season, with a shot accuracy of 25% and an average pass accuracy of 80%, as Slaven Bilic’s men finished seventh on 62 points. As for Moses’ parent club, Chelsea finished 10th on 50 points, 16 adrift of the top four and 31 behind champions Leicester City at the summit, subsequently missing out on European football. However despite that disadvantage, the Blues have still signed Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante this summer. Conte faces a tough start next term against the Hammers at Stamford Bridge, before games with Watford and Burnley in the following weeks.
