PATANI—A member of Delta State House of Assembly, Dr. Timi Tonye, representing Patani constituency has described the continued detention of 10 youths from Gbaramatu Kingdom by the military as an act of impunity. Buratai Speaking to Vanguard yesterday, Tonye said: “If the government feels that the youths have done something wrong, they should charge them to court and let the court determine their fate. “The idea of continually keeping them in custody like common criminals is the greatest act of impunity in a democratic setting.” Appealing to the military authorities to do the needful by releasing the youths immediately and tender an unreserved apology to them, their families and the Ijaw nation, the lawmaker said: “The continued detention of these youths by the military in a democratic system of government is highly undemocratic.”
