Following the recommendation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical and Development Sub-committee, the board has approved the appointment of Mr. Salisu Yusuf as Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, while head of the nation’s team to the Championship of African Nations (CHAN), Imama Amakapabo, will serve as assistant coach. Former national goal-keeper, Alloysius Agu would be goalkeeper trainer. Also approved was the recommendation for former Plateau United coach,Bitrus Bewarang, to become the new National Technical Director. He replaces the late Coach Shuaibu Ahmodu.
Also, the board approved the recommendation for Mr. Nduka Ugbade to return to the U-17 National Team as assistant coach.
The communique, signed by the chairman, NFF Communique Drafting Committee, Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, noted that the executive committee instructed the sub -committee to, within the next seven (7) days, recommend a candidate for the post of Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles.
It noted that the refusal of Frenchman Paul Le Guen, earlier recommended by the sub-committee, to accept to be given targets as well as unwillingness to live in Nigeria, made his candidature unacceptable to the board.
The Committee also disapproved of Le Guen’s desire to come to the job with two assistants, which would make Nigerian coaches redundant. The committee noted that it was the desire to show transparency that made the sub-committee make its reccommendations public in the first place.
The committee further resolved that any candidate recommended by the sub-committee must have accepted to be handed targets and must, also, be willing to live in Nigeria.
The Executive Committee also approved that only the head coaches of the various national teams would be on monthly salaries, while assistant coaches would receive only bonuses and allowances while all sub-committees would, henceforth, submit reports of their activities to the NFF Board through the federation’s secretary.
