To meet the surveying and mapping need of the nation as well as ensure enough coverage and accurate forecasting of every segment of its activities, the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Ebisintei Awudu, has said that about 300 Continuous Operating Reference (COR) stations are needed to cover the country.
Awudu, who stated this while briefing the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on the activities of the agency, said that the 15 COR stations in the country presently were grossly inadequate for coastal deformation, hazard mitigation, climate monitoring as well as other surveying and mapping challenges.
According to Awudu, the 15 established COR stations have not given the nation the optimal coverage required because the wide distances between them.
To this end, he called for the provision of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drones to assist the Office in making up for the surveying and mapping needs of inaccessible areas as well as step up on its constitutional role, according to a statement by the agency’s press officer, Grace Njoku.
